Kate Schillinger with medals

A Nantwich teenager has spoken of her joy after being selected to swim for Great Britain at the European Junior Championships in July.

Kate Schillinger, 15, will compete for her country at the tournament at Munich Swimming Arena from July 7th.

Kate said: “Honestly, being selected to represent Great Britain still hasn’t really sunk in.

“It’s something I’ve dreamed about for so long, so finding out I was selected was an amazing feeling.

“I’m super grateful to everyone at Repton Swimming and Winsford Swimming Club – my coaches, team-mates, and all the people behind the scenes.

“I definitely wouldn’t be there without them! To have the chance to represent my country in Munich is something I’m really proud of, and I’m excited to see what I can do.”

Kate and her family also paid tribute to Nantwich and Acton Grammar School Foundation who awarded her funding so she could compete in Serbia at the World School Games last year.

She won three gold medals at the U15s School Games in the 50 and 100 metre backstroke and 50 metre freestyle.

Kate is one of several students from Repton School in Derbyshire to compete in the European Junior Championships for Great Britain.

Other pupils will compete for Team England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and at the 2026 European Championships in Paris.

Repton School has one of the UK’s leading performance swimming programmes, winning the prestigious Junior Arena League in 2026.

Jamie Main, director of swimming at Repton, said: “This is an extraordinary moment for Repton Swimming.

“To have so many of our athletes, both our current pupils and club members alike to be selected to represent Great Britain, England, Wales, and Bahrain across four major international competitions is special.

“The dedication these young people have shown, day in and day out, is what makes achievements like this possible.

“We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them, and we cannot wait to cheer them on.”
