Stylists from a Nantwich salon celebrated their flower power as part of special presentation marking the 75th anniversary of a village WI group.

As Nantwich gears up for judging in the North West in Bloom awards, Steven Burgin Hairdressing demonstrated the art of decorating hair with flowers before a packed audience at Haughton, Faddiley and District WI.

Staff from the Hospital Street salon, along with 16 clients acting as models, travelled to Goodwill Hall in Faddiley to demonstrate various styles and cutting techniques including pixie cuts, classic bobs, long layers and disconnected cuts which are cropped underneath leaving the hair longer on top.

The evening introduced new hair stylist Lisa Woodhouse, also a trained florist, who demonstrated the latest trend for floral hair art now popular for festivals like Glastonbury and an everyday bohemian look.

She created a beautiful floral hair band for her model Emily Taylor, a law student from Nantwich, with fresh flowers and trailing ivy.

Emily, 19, explained how popular the trend is among university friends who often decorate their hair with small daisies for nights out – a throwback to the 1970s.

Salon owner Steven Burgin said: “Floral art for hair is a big trend right now, so we’re delighted to welcome the multi-talented Lisa to our team.

“We loved demonstrating the synergy between floral art and our creative industry.”

Meanwhile the salon, a landmark on Hospital Street for more than 25 years, is rooting for another Gold for Nantwich in this year’s North West in Bloom awards.

Judges are due to visit on July 29. Winners are announced in the autumn.

Steve, who trained at Vidal Sassoon, added: “After 40 plus years in the industry, I never tire of my job.

“Competition is tough in Nantwich though with around 30 other hairdressing venues but I wouldn’t be anywhere else.

“We have a stunning town particularly at this time of year. The floral displays are beautiful and Nantwich quite rightly deserves to win another gold this year.

“Credit to Nantwich in Bloom and all involved. We’re doing flower power in the way that we can in the salon, with hair.”

More than 70 WI members and friends attended the evening which celebrated a milestone for the group founded in 1951.

As a special birthday treat, all were received a £10 voucher to use at Steven Burgin Hairdressing with Lisa.

Haughton, Faddiley and District WI meets every second Tuesday of the month apart from August when there’s a trip out. New members are welcome.
