fire in field at Hunsterson

Fire crews had to battle a large blaze near Nantwich which at its height was eight acres in size.

Firefighters from Nantwich, Crewe, Alsager and Whitchurch were called out at around 5pm yesterday (July 16th) to Pewit Lane in Hunsterson.

It started in a crop field and affected approximately eight acres of the field.

Cheshire Fire Service said: “Crews attacked the sides of the fire to bring it under control, using hose reels and beaters.

“Farm machinery was also used to create fire breaks to stop the blaze spreading to adjoining fields.

“Once the fire had been contained, firefighters then used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish a tractor in the field which had been affected by the fire.

“The cause of the fire is believed to have started accidentally, caused by sunlight reflecting off glass within the field.”
