Nantwich Museum has received a grant from Cheshire East Council to deliver a two-year Collections and Community Engagement Project.
Nantwich Museum’s collections are central to its mission to protect, preserve, and educate.
They are the mainstay of the exhibitions, school programmes, and research.
The Pillory Street venue currently has a collection of approximately 6,000 artefacts.
However, only a fraction of these are currently on display in our galleries, with the majority remaining invisible to the general public.
A spokesperson said: “The collections are an asset that the museum now wants to exploit more fully.
“The grant from Cheshire East will provide a firm foundation to facilitate this through auditing the collection store, improving the object record database and making the database available online.
“In addition, the museum will prototype new ways of engagement by developing some community-based exhibitions.
“It is hoped the project will improve understanding of both collections and stories, lead to enhanced skills for staff, volunteers and visitors and contribute to a stronger, more connected local community.”
Trustees say they will share details of the project with the local community as the project further develops.
Entry is free to the museum which is open from 10am to 4pm (Tuesday – Saturday).
