Kingsbourne Estate in Nantwich

A power company says it will hand deliver letters to Nantwich residents warning of temporary electricity supply cuts later this month.

The plan by GTC Electrical comes after families on the Kingsbourne estate raised concerns about the poor postal service currently impacting the town.

GTC are planning the works on the estate between July 29 and 31st, and in a text message to residents said each would receive a letter with extra details.

However, some residents say they are only receiving mail every few weeks.

One resident Anthony Platt told Nantwich News: “We received a text through from GTC saying the supply will be cut off on July 29th for three days, when there will be back up generators in place.

“It said we would all receive letters on how it will affect us.

“But the Royal Mail service here is getting worse, we received five weeks’ worth of mail on Monday with one letter dating back to June 8th! Another included a hospital appointment we missed.

“No one’s likely to get that letter before the power supply goes off.”

A spokesperson for GTC told Nantwich News that customers “will not be without power for the duration of the three-day work period”.

And they said after the issue with the postal service was highlighted by Nantwich News, that they would hand deliver letters instead to inform residents.

Because generators need to be connected and disconnected safely, GTC says there will be two, planned short interruptions to supply.

– One interruption on Wednesday 29 July between 14:00 and 17:00 while the generators are connected.
– One interruption on Friday 31 July between 09:00 and 12:00 while the generators are disconnected.

“Each interruption is expected to last around 30 minutes, although we cannot provide an exact time within the stated windows,” said the spokesperson.

“And following feedback about postal delays, we are taking additional steps to ensure customers receive advance notice of the planned interruptions.

“Over the coming days, teams will hand-deliver shutdown cards to all affected properties to ensure customers receive the information well before the planned outage and have sufficient time to prepare.

“Those registered on the priority service will also be contacted via phone call where we have their telephone numbers on record.

“We are updating the information on our website, which will trigger text message notifications to affected customers.

“This follows concerns that the wording in the original communication could be interpreted as customers being without power for the entire three-day period.

“The revised messaging makes clear that customers will experience two short, planned interruptions of approximately 30 minutes each, rather than a continuous outage.”
