Nantwich Mayor Kim Jamson is hoping to hit the right note with music-lovers as she plans the first major fundraising event of her Mayoral year.
It’s been a whirlwind start for Cllr Jamson who has completed more than 35 engagements across the town and beyond since she became Town Mayor in May.
She helped to organise the Nantwich Youth Arts Festival earlier this month on top of meeting community groups and charities and attending the birthday of a 100-year-old resident.
But the working mum-of-two is “loving every minute of it” and is now looking forward to her fundraising night – Rock the Civic 4 – at Nantwich Civic Hall on August 7.
The night will feature tributes to legendary bands Status Quo and Wishbone Ash.
Headlining are Quo Connection, who recreate the unmistakable sound of 1970s Status Quo.
Supporting them are Blind Eye, the UK’s only tribute band dedicated to the music of Wishbone Ash.
The evening will raise funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities – Jabbin Dabber Boxing Club, Cheshire Young Carers Organisation and RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre.
She said: “It’s hard to believe that I’ve already been Mayor for eight weeks.
“During that time, I’ve attended around 35 events and engagements. It’s been busy but I can honestly say that being Mayor has exceeded all of my expectations.
“Everywhere I go, people are so warm, welcoming and genuinely pleased to see you. Meeting the wonderful residents of Nantwich has been the greatest privilege.
“Now I really hope the town will get behind the tribute night on August 7th. A big thank-you to Cllr Arthur Moran for organising this.
“I’d love to see as many people there as possible. All proceeds will go to these three worthwhile causes.”
Cllr Jamson, a former primary school teacher, combines her Mayoral engagements with working for a teacher trade union.
Highlights so far have included visiting Nantwich Players, RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre, Stroke Survivors Group and an event marking 110 years since the Battle of the Somme at Crewe Lyceum.
She added: “One of my favourite places is Nantwich Players Theatre. We are incredibly lucky to have such a talented theatre on our doorstep.
“Another memorable visit was to the RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre, where we discussed ways we can work together to protect and promote our local wildlife.
“This has become especially important following the recent loss of two of Nantwich’s much-loved adult male swans, one sadly as the result of a dog attack and the other through old age.
“We are now working alongside members of the Nantwich Swans Facebook community to help protect Cleo and her last remaining cygnet following the loss of Dylan, her partner of 13 years.”
Earlier on August 7th – a day of double engagements – she will join with Nantwich in Bloom for its annual presentation of certificates to businesses for outstanding floral displays.
