Inquest - Staff suspended after missing dementia sufferer Roy Tomlinson from nantwich

Police divers are searching Nantwich lake today as dozens of residents joined search and rescue teams to help find missing dementia sufferer Roy Tomlinson.

The 83-year-old was reported missing in the Shrewbridge Road area of Nantwich.

Worried residents in the town braved wind and heavy rain throughout the night as they searched around the canal, Nantwich Lake, and the marina in the hope of finding him.

Today, the search and rescue helicopter is back in the skies above Nantwich, and police divers have been drafted in to search the lake and parts of the River Weaver.

A police spokesman said today: “We continue our efforts to locate Roy Tomlinson, who was reported missing yesterday (Tuesday) from the Shrewbridge Road area of Nantwich.

“Specialist teams from Cheshire Search & Rescue will be join police officers today to assist with the search for Roy, who has dementia and can become confused.

“Roy has links in both the Crewe and Nantwich areas and residents are asked to check their sheds or gardens.”

Police said they were very grateful for people helping, but advised residents to be “aware of weather conditions and lighting”.

A spokesman added: “We greatly appreciate everyone’s help, but please be aware without appropriate equipment you can be putting yourselves in danger.”

Roy is described as 5ft 10in tall with grey receding hair.

He was last seen wearing a grey jumper, jeans and black or brown shoes. He is not thought to have been wearing a coat.
