Well-known Nantwich printing firm Delmar Print has ceased trading and gone into receivership, it has been revealed.

The news is a blow to the town where the company is based on Wall Lane, employing up to 15 people.

Sources close to the business say the decision was made to close on Tuesday (December 4) due to ‘cashflow problems’.

Director Ian Springthorpe confirmed the news when we contacted him.

Mr Springthorpe said: “Delmar has ceased trading, no further comment to make.”

It’s believed a number of employees have been taken on by Johnsons Printers on Oat Market, the only remaining dedicated printing firm in the town.

Delmar customers have been contacted by phone over the last two days to be told the news.

Stephanie Cheadle was due to collect around 8,000 copies of her Heart of Cheshire magazine this week to be distributed. Now she is calling around to look for a new printer.

Stephanie said: “The big thing for me was we uploaded the page files on Monday for printing and no one from Delmar communicated with me until Wednesday. That’s a big disappointment.

“These things happen and it is a great shame a company as well known as Delmar can go under.

“But we were due to collect 8,000 copies ready for distribution and now we’re going to have to find another printer. That’s a big challenge.”

The company was founded by Larry Springthorpe in 1982 after he completed a three-year apprenticeship in printing.

He linked up with fellow director Michael Farr and helped to grow the business, moving from its original base on Arnold Street in Nantwich to larger premises on Wall Lane.

They have customers across the town – including Nantwich Town Council, Nantwich Show and Nantwich Food Festival – as well as all over the UK.

  1. Customers may have been informed, but unpaid suppliers have not. We are a small business who have provided goods and services which allowed the presses to operate. Delmar has had the benefit of this, not paid and not notified. I have only just found out as our e-mail with the latest statement and request for payment could not be delivered. I trust that the liquidators will contact us shortly. I am sorry to hear that the company has closed, but they do still have legal duties to suppliers.

    • Not sure who you expect to notify you. Once the administrators move in, all the staff will have been laid off. It is the job of the administrators to notify any unpaid creditors.

  2. Have Delmar gone into Receivership? Have stock already printed and stored and wish to collect, but need to make arrangements with someone from the Company

    I am shocked by this news – however although I have been a customer for some 15 years no one let me know. I have been trying to contact them about the next print job to find the phone lines telling me the mailbox was full and no response from an email sent on Wednesday. I feel that someone should have been in contact
