While it’s never 100% reliable, it seems finally spring has arrived in the UK.
That brings warmer weather, and a chance to get out and about in the beautiful Cheshire countryside.
If you’re ready to shrug off the winter coat and enjoy everything the area has to offer, here are some useful ideas.
Making the most of Nantwich in the sun
• Get to the outdoor swimming pool. If the local news is getting you down, it’s time to switch off for a bit and take a dip in the local pool. Nantwich’s outdoor pool is one of the few remaining brine pools in the country, and on a sunny day, there’s nothing quite like diving in, swimming a few brisk laps, then drying off on one of the loungers. It was even voted one of the best outdoor pools in the country by the Telegraph, which is high praise indeed.
• Rest at the lake. Situated just on the edge of town, Nantwich lake is a great place for a lazy afternoon stroll. Make an event of it and pack a picnic, or get the kids to identify the birds that live there (a children’s guide comes in handy here). Keep an eye out for the refreshments van; a welcome sight when you’ve finished your walk!
• Reaseheath Zoo. Reaseheath Zoo is always popular with families, and there are some great events on during the spring and summer; such as the lambing days, where visitors can see the lambs being born. Best of all, it’s reasonably priced, which makes it the perfect option for a treat at the weekend or during the school holidays.
• Visit Brookfield Park. This lovely green park is the perfect outdoor area to relax with a book when the sun’s out. Children love to climb the trees, and adults can enjoy a relaxing walk with the dog. If you’re into fitness, this is a great place to go for a run too.
• Do a town trail. Nantwich has the honour of having the most listed buildings in England. There are some gorgeous Tudor and Georgian properties in the town, and if you’re into history, you could happily while away an hour or two, visiting them all. This experience is greatly enhanced if you take a history book or local guide with you.
• Visit the Peak District. We’re lucky enough to have the Peak District close by, with all its spectacular scenery. It doesn’t take too long to drive there (from one to two hours, depending on which part you visit), and it’s the perfect spot to enjoy some of the country’s finest natural surroundings.
• Spend the evening in a beer garden. Slip into your smart shirt, slap on some Creed Aventus cologne, then take your partner out for a drink or two at one of Nantwich’s great pubs. The Leopard is a popular spot for an al fresco wine or beer, thanks to its generously sized beer garden.
