An Acton pupil has been crowned champion in a competition to find Cheshire’s best young artists.
Finn Gilding, a Year 5 pupil at Acton Academy in Nantwich, was crowned overall primary school winner for his “Colourful Birds” watercolour piece.
He was crowned winner in the dot-art Schools inter-school art competition.
It was launched in 2017 for schools across Cheshire East, Cheshire West & Chester, and Warrington, and since its inception almost 7,000 students from 398 schools have taken part.
Participating schools initially submitted up to 25 pieces of art created by Year 5 or Year 9 students, which are then featured on the dot-art Schools website.
The shortlisting panel was made up of arts professionals including international artist Ryan Gander, Chester-based artist Kaety Moon of Woodhouse Studio and Dr Caroline Wilkinson Director of LJMU Liverpool School of Art & Design, who selected their top three entries from each school.
The public then voted online for their favourite piece of work with the entry from each school with most votes featuring in the final exhibition.
The overall winners and runners-up for both primary and secondary categories were chosen by guest judge Una Meehan of University of Chester and announced at special prize-giving ceremony attended by the Lord Mayor of Chester Cllr Mark Williams, teachers, students and their families.
Dot-Art Schools project manager Carolyn Murray said: “The standard of work is outstanding this year and it’s inspiring to have so many talented young artists in the region.
“The exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for the public to check out the best work by some of Cheshire’s rising stars.”
