The 11th annual Signal 1 ‘Nantwich Spooktacular’ took place at Nantwich Show Ground last night, writes Jonathan White.
Despite 24 hours of rain beforehand, the evening weather was dry and clear for thousands who attended.
Shuttle buses carried passengers from designated Nantwich car parks to and from the Spooktacular venue.
Gates opened at 4pm with ‘Baldini Bone-jangles’ greeting people as they arrived.
A stage area hosted an adult fancy dress competition and a children’s fancy dress competition.
There were also refreshment stalls and a funfair, along with the biggest fireworks display in the UK outside of New Year.
TV and radio presenter Emma Jones compered the evening and led the countdown to the start of the fireworks.
The crowd were treated to a spectacular 15-minute display involving several thousand fireworks.
Fireworks were supplied and choreographed by Crewe-based firework company ‘Blitz Fireworks’ working alongside Oxfordshire-based Illusion Fireworks Ltd – previous winners of both the British Pyromusical Championship and the British Firework Championship.
Event sponsors were Alpha Omega Securities Ltd, Mitten Clark – Chartered Accountants, Snugburys – ice cream shop, Melody Corporation – suppliers of quality marquees, Enviro Skip Hire, A-Star Scaffolding, Cheshire Lamont – estate agent, James Du Pavey – estate agents, The Nantwich Show – agricultural show, Jays Computer Services – based in Crewe, Blitz Balloons and Fancy Dress – based in Crewe, Willow Productions, Acer Plant & Grab Hire, and Holdcroft Honda Cobridge.
Blitz Fireworks owner John Malam said: “We had to make a brave decision this morning whether to go ahead with the display.
“The weather forecast was for dry weather later in the afternoon and the evening, so we went ahead as planned.
“We would like to thank everyone for supporting the event.”

A nerve racking evening checking your insurance policy “Wow” your winter nights must fly by.
It’s just a saying!! Gawd some dumb folk live here?
Yes the brave decision was to move it away from the hall closer to housing was it?
Genius idea, we get the fall out of debri missiles etc and spend a nerve racking evening checking our household insurance policy.
Not to mention these were not just fireworks, they WERE OUTRAGEOUS EXPLOSIONS TOO.
