Wistaston Green Road – signage forces pedestrian onto road (1)

Dear Editor,

I am fearful that pedestrians (including myself) are at risk when walking along Wistaston Green Road alongside the 150 dwelling Bellway ‘Kingfisher Reach’ housing development currently being constructed.

To walk from Wistaston to join the Crewe-Nantwich Greenway path, at the Wistaston Green Road/Middlewich Road junction, I either walk along the Wonderful Wistaston off-road path or take the quicker and the more direct route along Wistaston Green Road.

However, obstructions and the narrowing of the path have appeared on the roadside at Wistaston Green Road due to the Bellway construction site. The obstructions are caused by temporary signage and fenced off areas at the roadside.

These factors also make social distancing impossible without a party stepping further into the road to pass each-other.

The road surface on Wistaston Green Road from the Golden Jubilee Bridge to near Brydson Crescent junction is also still in a state of disrepair with potholes, ruts, mud, and a ditch which means traffic often has to deviate from its normal direction to avoid damage to the vehicle.

Bellway need to urgently liaise with Cheshire East Council to improve pedestrian safety by removing obstructions and widening and tarmacking the pathway, otherwise I am fearful there will be a collision with a member of the public.

I have reported the hazards above on Cheshire East Council’s ‘Report It’ website, http://www.cheshireeasthighways.org/report-it-general.aspx

Yours
Jonathan White
