Reaseheath College students were hailed as champions after playing a key role in the success of the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).
Thirty-six students and two staff from the Nantwich college provided the arena party for the HOYS – the most eagerly awaited event in the equestrian calendar.
The students, under the direction of international course designer Bob Ellis and a team of course builders, rebuilt fences and changed the course to a tight schedule.
Major competitions including the famous Puissance, in which the wall reached 7ft 3in, were televised on Sky Sports.
The Reaseheath team were led by course managers Sarah Turner and Kerry Nunns.
Bob Ellis, who will build the showjumping courses for the 2012 London Olympics, said: “This is a massive operation which this year has attracted 1,500 horses and over 65,000 spectators.
“I have been very impressed with the way Reaseheath’s team have worked with us to produce this elite level of sport. The students have operated at high energy all week despite the late hours, thanks to Reaseheath’s staff who have been brilliant motivators.”
Sarah Turner added: “The students were absolutely fantastic and we are so proud of them. They really grafted, were always on time, were happy and polite throughout and even managed to stick to their curfew most nights!”
One of the students Robyn Rogerson, 17, said: “It was an amazing experience. It was hard work but I absolutely loved it and I’d definitely go back again next year if I had the opportunity.”
