Plans for new Leighton Hospital approved by Cheshire East councillors

Cheshire East councillors have given the go-ahead for a new Leighton Hospital in South Cheshire which will “secure the future of healthcare provision for decades to come”.

The strategic planning board was unanimous today (June 9th) in approving the outline application for a new six-storey hospital, ancillary buildings, multi-storey car park, access points, parking and associated infrastructure.

Cheshire East councillors have voted through an independent panel’s recommendation to increase councillor allowances and backdate the rise to April 2024.

The vote was close with 39 voting in favour of the rise, 33 against and two abstaining.

A Nantwich housing application has been deferred for a second time for a traffic assessment – with a parish councillor warning “until there’s a fatality, nobody’s going to take us seriously”.

The proposal from Nightingale Land for up to 75 homes off Broad Lane was deferred earlier this month by the strategic planning board (SPB) for a traffic assessment to identify any cumulative impact.
