The Rifleman on James Hall Street closed earlier this year after the landlords announced they had to call time on the pub because it was no longer financially viable.

Edwardian orphanage in South Cheshire to be converted to retirement flats

An Edwardian former orphanage described as a jewel in Crewe’s crown is set to be converted into retirement flats after standing empty for 12 years.

Cheshire East Council’s southern planning committee has given the go-ahead for Grade II-listed Webb House in Victoria Avenue, to be transformed into 54 extra care apartments with a swimming pool and gym – subject to final design tweaks being approved by planning officers.
