Nantwich Town have signed defender Cliff Moyo from Trafford FC.

The 20-year-old has also played for Witton Albion, Barrow and England at under 18 level.

Dabbers boss Danny Johnson said it was key to get defensive cover for injured players.

“We just need another defender,” he said.

“We have only got the five at the minute. Adam Jones and Mat Bailey can’t seem to stay fit.

“So we need to get another defender.

“Cliff will fit into wherever I need him too. He can play right back, left back, centre half or centre midfield.

“So he will be a good edition for us.”

Moyo was unable to play against FC United of Manchester where Nantwich were narrowly beaten 2-1.

And manager Johnson said his side were left to rue missed chances in the defeat.

“We have not taken our chances in the first half. We have kept ourselves wide open to what FC United do,” he said.

“So we are really disappointed because I thought the lads did ever so well.

“It was individual mistakes that cost us.

“I’ve had a go at Terry [Smith] for the first one because it should be sweepers keepers at the end.

“The second one we should defend better one on one.

“It came just as we have had a great spell of pressure.

“So bitterly disappointed, but we dust ourselves down and go again against Trafford next week.”

The game was in serious doubt and only went ahead thanks to a dedicated set of FC United fans who cleared the snow off the pitch and surrounding areas.

Johnson added: “It was a magnificent effort, absolutely great from the volunteers, fair play to them.

“They spent all day here Sunday and that is what non-league football is all about.”

Johnson also confirmed he was still looking for new number two following the departure of Phil Eastwood but said he was in no rush to appoint anyone.
