The award-winning Willaston in Bloom team has received funds of £440 from local councillor Brian Silvester.

The money was part of £1,500 raised at a night of entertainment at Willaston Social Club to celebrate Cllr Silvester’s 35 years of service.

It is being donated to various good causes in memory of former Parish Council Chairman Mike Heywood.

A cheque for £440 was presented to parish councillor Wayne Lewis, chairman of the Willaston “Britain in Bloom” committee, on the Village Green in Willaston.

Cllr Silvester said: “In the ‘Small Town’ category of the North West Britain in Bloom competition Willaston was successful again this year and was presented with the Silver award.

“The Willaston in Bloom group do wonderful work and I salute the local volunteers who give so freely of their time to make the village look so beautiful.

“There is a wonderful community spirit in Willaston and the award was fully justified.

“The money was raised in memory of Mike Heywood, the former Chairman of the Parish Council. I am sure he would be delighted with the recent success of the village he loved.”

PIC (L to R): Willaston in Bloom volunteers Maureen Nash, Julie Lewis, Cllr Wayne Lewis, Cllr Brian Silvester, Sheila Davies, Former Mayoress of Crewe and Nantwich, and volunteer Cllr John Flackett.
