Nantwich Cricket Club, Whitehouse Lane

Thieves have struck twice at Nantwich Cricket Club off Whitehouse Lane, stealing a roller and a cellar cooling system.

The raid is another example of metal thieves targeting the area, cashing in on the value of scrap metal.

The 100-year-old wicket roller was taken from the club last week after the cooling system had been ripped out.

The thefts have cost the club around £2,000, according to chairman Rob Sproston.

He said the club may have to look installing CCTV in a bid to prevent thieves from targeting the club in the future.

Nantwich Police are keen to speak to anyone with information about the thefts.

It’s believed offenders must have used large vehicles to get away with heavy and bulky items like the roller.

Insp Dave Smithers, head of Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “Metal theft is a growing problem across the county, we would anyone who knows anything to get in touch.”

Witnesses should call Nantwich NPU on 0845 4580000, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
