Tributes have been pouring in for Michael “Flash” Meakin, Nantwich’s ‘metal man’ who has died.
Flash has been a well known character on the streets of Nantwich for more than 50 years, making a living by collecting people’s unwanted scrap metal and selling it on.
Metal thieves broke into a South Cheshire scrapyard and stole more than £30,000 of goods, escaping with it in the company’s truck. Detectives want help from anyone who saw the break in at Houstons and Sons in Crewe, or the stolen Houstons wagon spotted on the M6 towards Birmingham (pictured).
Scrap dealers in Nantwich and other Cheshire towns have joined forces with police to combat metal theft. The businesses have signed up to a scheme which reinforces their commitment to stamping out dodgy metal deals.
Thieves have struck twice at Nantwich Cricket Club off Whitehouse Lane, stealing a roller and a cellar cooling system. The raid is another example of metal thieves targeting the area, cashing in on the value of scrap metal.
