Leighton Hospital catering staff will compete for national recognition after winning regional heats of a competition.

Six chefs from Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) have won places at Hospital Catering Association Hot Cookery competition on March 1.

Three two-person teams won their heats by cooking a two-course meal for four people, on a budget of £2.05 per person.

They will compete against seven other teams in the final, after all three teams scored in the top 10 overall scores in the country.

It’s the fourth time MCHFT has been represented in the finals. The trust has previously won one gold, one silver and two bronze awards.

The teams are made up of Peter Rorbach and Thomas Warren McCauley, Bernard Shoebridge and Michael Brassington, and Irene Saunders and Stuart Tindell.

Irene said: “We are all very proud… it just emphasises the effort the catering department puts into providing food for patients that is both affordable and of a high quality in terms of taste and nutrition.”

Amanda Cartmill, catering service manager for MCHFT, said: “The trust is one of very few in the country which still cooks traditional food and provides two cooked meals per day.”
