Hairdressing students from Nantwich and Crewe went head-to-head in an eye-catching competition at South Cheshire College.

Students showcased their hair skills in the event which was supported by staff, students and members of the public.

Three separate competitions were judged by local hair stylists which challenged students to test their skills in a race against the clock.

The theme for this year’s event was “characters” and targeted Level 3 hairdressing students.

Colourful hairdressing styles centred around film and fantasy characters including Princess Leia from Star Wars, Cinderella and Cruella De Vil, the evil character in 101 Dalmations.

First event winner was Jennie Latham, Pam Smith won the second and Jordan Moran scooped first prize in the third event.

Jennie was crowned overall winner for conjuring up a hairstyle which represented the horse from Black Beauty.

Anne Pickering, hair lecturer at South Cheshire College and one of the event organisers, said: “The competition was a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate skills in front of potential employers and give them experience of working under pressure.

“Every year the competition gets better and better and there were some exceptional entries again this year.”

Winning students will now go forward to the North West hairdressing final in Blackpool in February.
