Metal thieves broke into a South Cheshire scrapyard and stole more than £30,000 of goods, escaping with it in the company’s truck.

Detectives want help from anyone who saw the break in at Houstons and Sons in Crewe, or the stolen Houstons wagon spotted on the M6 towards Birmingham (pictured).

Police say the break-in occurred between 2.30am and 5.45am on Tuesday (April 10) at the yard on Victoria Avenue, Crewe.

Offenders stole cable and copper which Houstons had already processed so were in the form of square blocks, or bales.

The bales of metal are around 25kg each and around 300 were stolen from the scrap yard.

Det Con Dave Newton said: “As well as the cable, they also stole lead, a yellow stripper machine and a Houstons liveried Nissan Cabster flat bed pick up truck which was parked at the premises.

“The truck was then later spotted on the M6 heading towards Birmingham.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who has seen the truck since, or has any information about the theft.”

Anyone with information call DC Newton from Crewe CID on 101, or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
