Blyth FA Cup - Nantwich Town's Weaver Stadium, pre-season games, community football

Nantwich Town’s local Evo-Stik Premier rivals Northwich Victoria are to be thrown out of the league, it has been announced.

The Vics, who have been playing some of their homes games at the Weaver Stadium, have been found guilty of failing to comply with several league rules.

The club, which lost its home ground earlier this season, was told at a hearing held yesterday (April 13) it had failed on three rules regarding financial matters.

An Evo-StiK Premier League statement said Northwich’s membership of the Northern Premier League has been terminated with effect from the end of the current playing season.

It also confirmed the club will not be allowed to participate in this season’s promotion play-offs.

The decision is a bitter blow for supporters as the team, despite the off-field troubles, is currently second in the league and on current form would have been favourites to progress in the play-offs.

Their next game is this Tuesday April 17, at Nantwich’s ground, when they entertain Bradford Park Avenue.

The Dabbers welcome Chorley FC to the Weaver Stadium this afternoon, kick off 3pm.
