The trip to North Ferriby proved a step too far as Nantwich’s unbeaten seven-match run came to an end.

The Dabbers were beaten 3-1 in their final Evo-Stik Premier Division game of the season.

Nantwich had strong claims for a penalty as early as the ninth minute when Sean Cooke went down in a challenge with North Ferriby keeper Steve Wilson but the referee controversially awarded a corner.

Ferriby were beginning to take control of the game when Nantwich took the lead in the 22nd minute.

Gregg Anderson fouled Michael Lennon and Dave MacPherson scored from the penalty spot.

This spurred the Dabbers on and they went close through Cooke and Josh Lane.

However North Ferriby’s passing-game was causing problems for Nantwich who found the home side’s pace and movement hard to deal with.

The Villagers equalised after 32 minutes. Russell Fry’s free-kick sailed over the defence, Anderson’s run beat the offside trap and he was able to play the ball past keeper Jon Brain before rounding him to tap in.

Play continued end-to-end but neither side created any real chances before half-time.

Ferriby settled the game with two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half.

After 47 minutes, good play between Wayne Brooksby and Gary Bradshaw saw the ball reach Chris Bolder who scored from close range.

Five minutes later Lisles, Lee Morris and Brooksby worked the ball down the left and Brooksby’s cross gave Bradshaw an easy tap-in.

The game was fairly quiet until the 75th minute when Bolder was sent-off for an apparent head-butt on MacPherson.

This followed an incident moments earlier when MacPherson impeded Bolder as the Ferriby player was running towards the Nantwich penalty box as a Ferriby attack developed. Neither official saw the challenge which went unpunished.

Simon Everall and Cooke had shots for Nantwich as the game closed but Ferriby were never really troubled. The Villagers played the game out with some style and gained a deserved win.
