John Lawton, with wife Lynda, just before he went missing in Greece

A Wistaston mum has sent a message of support to the family of missing Cheshire runner John Lawton – just two months after her own husband vanished abroad.

John, 62, of Alsager, has not been seen since vanishing while competing in the Taygetos Challenge in Greece.

Despite extensive searches by John’s family, friends, volunteers and emergency services, he hasn’t been found. His wife Lynda (pictured with John) and son Steve remain in Greece helping the search.

Teresa Dykes went through a similar trauma two months ago when her husband Peter, 43, went missing in Spain.

He went out to watch Stoke City play in the Europa League, but didn’t catch the expected flight home with his brother, sparking a police hunt.

He was eventually traced several days later after Teresa and friends travelled out to track him down to a hotel in Madrid.

“I really feel for them (the Lawton family),” said Teresa (pictured with Peter).

“I know they must all be out of their minds with worry for the safety and well-being of John.

“Publicity is the way forward, without publicity and help from friends and family I would never have found Peter.

“The charity Missing Abroad provided much support and can explain the avenues that can be explored in order to find John.

“They actually got more info from the consulate than I could and really pushed them. I do hope they get some positive news soon.”

A fund has been set up to help the Lawton family stay out in Greece as long as possible in the continued search for John.
