reaseheath college RAG fundraisers

Two teams overcame tough challenges to raise money for a Nantwich college’s RAG (Raising and Giving) charities.

Reaseheath College’s Greg Otto, Lionel Smith, Nick Kennedy, Chris Mann and Natalie Gascoyne completed their own Olympics-style triathlon.

Greg, assistant student services manager, Lionel, students association president, agriculture instructor Nick, telehandling instructor Chris, and agriculture lecturer Natalie spent four days cycling 110 miles across England from Whitehaven to Whitley Bay.

They were joined for the two later sections by Natalie’s partner Simon Parker, a lecturer at a Welsh college.

The team was supported by agriculture lecturers Jane Richardson and Lucy Shenton.

They kayaked Loch Ness in seven hours, despite strong winds, and tackled Ben Nevis’ arête route on the north face, one of the mountain’s most difficult ridges.

Nat said: “It was great fun and a great achievement. The main problem was trying to find something as good as last year’s challenge!”

A second team, including principal Meredydd David, head of IT Rob Brown, marketing manager Glyn Ferriday, livestock facilitator Lesley Innes, joinery course manager Dave Morgan, business support apprentice Beccy Glassford, animal management course manager Holly Borowski and her partner Barry Okane took on the Three Peaks Challenge.

Mr David: “This was a great team effort and the support, help and encouragement given by all was important to our success.”

Money raised through sponsorship will go to this year’s RAG charity, The Oliver King Foundation, and to last year’s charity, the North West Air Ambulance.

So far they have raised £6,500. The final cheque will be handed over at the Students Ball at the end of June.
