New Stapeley community hall

A long-awaited village hall in Stapeley, Nantwich is set to be opened after almost two years of legal red-tape.

Now Stapeley Parish Council is urging groups to come forward with suggestions on how it can be used – or risk losing it.

The council says it is on the verge of agreeing a lease for Stapeley Village Hall next to Pear Tree Primary with owners Cheshire East Council.

However, parish clerk Carol Jones said they want to make sure “there is community support for it” before contracts are signed.

The outside multi-recreation area is in use, but the building has been victim to vandals in recent months with windows smashed.

It is hoped local activity and sporting groups will come forward and hire the hall and breath life into it.

Children’s groups and Zumba classes have already expressed an interest.

“We are almost at lease-signing stage, but we want to ensure that there is community support for this facility,” said the clerk.

“If the community doesn’t want it, the parish council won’t take it on. It’s up to you. Come and have a chat to us and look around the hall.

“Make suggestions as to how it could be used for the benefit of local residents. Do you want to volunteer to help run it?

“Are you part of a local group which could use it? We want your ideas.”

The council is currently preparing a hire costs plan for Cheshire East Council approval.
