There will be no repeat of Nantwich Town’s epic FA Cup run this year after they were beaten 2-0 at Chorley in the first qualifying round.

The Dabbers were no match for their Evo-Stik Premier League rivals and lost out on the £3,000 prize money.

Jimmy Quinn’s men provided stiff resistance in the first half without being able to trouble the host’s goalkeeper too often.

But two quick-fire goals in the first five minutes after the break killed the tie.

Chorley dominated possession but Jon Brain and a well-marshalled defence stood firm.

Ciaran Kilheeney had a one-on-one but he delayed his shot and defenders tracked back to foil him.

Nantwich had their first decent attempt on the break after 35 minutes but Jack Cudworth made an easy save.

In the second half, Chorley’s pressure paid off when Andy Teague squared the ball into the box and Kilheeney tapped in.

Darren Stephenson doubled the lead when he lobbed Brain into the far corner.

They were killer blows for Nantwich who never recovered. Adam Roscoe scored a third but it was ruled out for offside.
