The Cat Crewe & Nantwich Community Award Winners 2013

Big-hearted volunteers and top performers were celebrated at the Crewe and Nantwich Community Awards 2013.

The event, held at Richmond Village in Nantwich, recognises people in the community who dedicate their time helping others and raising money for charity.

Seventy people gathered for the gala awards evening to thank our community heroes.

Nantwich-based community radio station The Cat hosted the event and Chris Radford provided the entertainment.

Guests of honour included Cllr George Walton, Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr John Lewis, Deputy Mayor of Nantwich, and Cllr Irene Faseyi, Deputy Mayor of Crewe.

Organiser Claire Faulkner, of The Cat radio, said: “It is a real pleasure to see people in our community getting the recognition they deserve.”

All money raised will be donated to The Wilson Scout House Group in Crewe.

Winners on the night included Ann Hignett, who won the Long Service to the Community Award. Ann has run a Brownie pack for 40 years.

Local Volunteer of the Year went to Donna Glover, who has helped to raise money and organised holidays for disadvantaged children in Crewe and Nantwich.

Local Fundraiser of the Year was awarded to The Nantwich Christie Support Group, which is in its 20th year and has raised over £200,000.

And Achievement of the Year went to Bunbury-based Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, who scooped a bronze medal at the London Olympic games.
