A Nantwich businesswoman has realised a dream by converting the farmhouse she used to holiday in as a child.

Jen Horan has developed the stunning farm building at Llandrillo in North Wales into five holiday cottages.

She sold her deli business in Chester in 2010 to move into renovating holiday cottages in North Wales where she spent many a happy holiday in her childhood.

And after months of searching she stumbled across the old “Cilan” farmhouse as it came on to the market.

Jen HoranJen (pictured) realised the family connection to the property which is surrounded by the River Dee as the place she used to holiday with her parents Ron and Antoinette.

She said: “I soon recognised the potential of the current farmhouse and its outbuildings to fulfill my business dream.

“I also fell in love with the idyllic setting with the river running past and the peace and tranquility, taking me back to my childhood summers.

“The realisation hit that I wanted to create a small group of unique cottages to enable families and couples alike to escape to, but still allowing them to indulge in the feel of five-star accommodation.”

Her new “Rivercatcher” development will include five cottages of varying sizes, with function rooms.

It is located on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park, close to popular visitor attractions like Bala Lake and Llangollen.

“I’m also planning to offer retreats for artists and writers, given the secluded location,” Jen added.

“As well as fishermen like my dad, who will be able to almost touch the river from their cottages, and I’m also considering offering weddings for those who want a quiet, private day.

“I’m hoping Rivercatcher will not just turn my memories into my business dream, but also create everlasting memories for my guests.”

Jen’s adventure is being chronicled in her blog at www.rivercatcher.co.uk/blog/
