Two talented engineers from Nantwich’s Reaseheath College won awards in a competition to find the UK’s best construction apprentices.

James Scott and Adam Hughes were regional winners of the Construction Plant-hire Association’s “Stars of the Future” competition.

James then went on to take the national title for the best Level 3 construction plant apprentice.

The prize-winners received awards from Richard Noble OBE, a World Land Speed record holder and pioneer of the Bloodhound Super Sonic Car.

The ceremony was held in front of a packed audience of relatives and college representatives.

James, 26, completes a return journey of 600 miles to attend Reaseheath College from Bodmin.

He was chosen to represent Reaseheath because of his commitment to going the extra mile in his studies and in supporting fellow apprentices.

Adam, 19, works in the Smethwick depot of Gunn JCB.

He was selected for his natural ability when working on construction plant machinery and for the high standard of his work in both written and practical sessions.

Course manager Simon Keen said: “We are delighted these two outstanding apprentices have been recognised with such prestigious awards. They both thoroughly deserve the recognition.

“James has never lost sight of his goal and will do everything in order to achieve the qualification and progress within the company.

“Adam’s attitude to his work, his attention to detail and his eagerness to learn have all marked him out as the one to watch in the future.

“I am looking forward to challenging him next year on his Level 3 Apprenticeship and I am positive he will again raise the bar.”
