Cheshire fire crews will be rolling into Nantwich next week to offer drivers some winter advice.

They are teaming up with other agencies to carry out free safety checks on cars as part of their campaign for safer roads in Cheshire.

Tyres will be checked for bulges, depth and pressure by tyre company ATS Tyres, and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service mechanics will show drivers how to check oil and water levels and explain the importance of these.

Every driver who has a vehicle check will get a winter driving pack which includes safety leaflets, tyre pressure and depth gauges and a torch.

Frances Egerton, one of the service’s road safety officers, said: “It’s important to be prepared in case bad weather strikes.

“Engaging with drivers across Cheshire to advise them on safer driving in wintry conditions is an important part of our road safety campaigning and our drive to cut road traffic collisions and incidents and I’m hoping that people will take the time to have their cars checked by our crews.”

The Cheshire East winter road safety event will be held at the Nantwich Sainsbury’s store on Middlewich Road from 10am to 3pm on October 15.

It will also be in at Tesco Middlewich on October 24, and Grand Junction Retail Park, Crewe, on October 30.
