Talented Wrenbury residents near Nantwich have helped grow £20.13 into a staggering £1,500 as part of a new scheme.

The  idea began at St Margaret’s Church, in Wrenbury, where members of the congregation were given just over £20 to launch with.

They then used their talents to generate more funds by various means before presenting the results at Harvest Time.

Some made objects of fabric, wood and card; some organised coffee mornings, while others staged social events.

So far, more than £1,500 has been raised – and the pot is still growing.

One of  the special extra “treasures” produced was this artwork (pictured) by members of Wrenbury Art Group.

The picture is of 33 painted canvas panels using acrylics which make up a dramatic whole, drawing on Celtic symbolism while referring to Wrenbury and its surroundings.

Hilary Wood, of Wrenbury Art Group and the designer, said: “This has showcased the wonderful and exciting talents of local amateur artists to produce such a fabulous treasure for the Church.”

It is hoped the individual panels will be auctioned to raise further funds for the church.

The painting is currently on display in St Margaret’s Church for visitors to see.
