New FA Chairman Greg Dyke dropped in to Nantwich to visit what he believes sets the standards for a “community club”.

Mr Dyke visited the Weaver Stadium with Cheshire FA Chief Executive Simon Gerrard.

They viewed facilities and watched coaches led by football development officer Steve Smithies host a number of training sessions with youth, junior and ladies teams.

Nantwich Town chairman Jon Gold said: “Greg Dyke is focused on developing initiatives and making positive changes at every level of football that will benefit and grow the English game over the coming years.

“We are proud he has highlighted Nantwich Town as a community club from which he can draw inspiration for his future plans for football at this level.

“And now having witnessed things first hand, he can hopefully include us in any future developments and initiatives that may be introduced in coming years.”

Mr Dyke, ex chairman of Brentford, also reminisced with the Nantwich’s President Frank Blunstone, a former manager of Brentford.

The FA Chairman also met vice-presidents Neville Clarke, Albert Pye and Peter Temmen who between them have given the club over 150 years’ service.

“The RESPECT Award we won earlier this year has clearly put us on the map,” added Jon Gold.

“For Greg to take time out of his busy schedule to visit our club is a great honour and reward for our supporters and the volunteers that do such fantastic work to enable the club to develop and prosper and coinciding with a great victory in the FA Trophy, it has made for a memorable weekend for the club.”

Meanwhile, the Dabbers have been handed a tasty draw in the next round of the FA Trophy with a short trip to local rivals Northwich Victoria.

The tie is due to be played on November 16.
