Six thousand households in Crewe and Nantwich are eligible for assistance from energy supplier with heating their homes.

Latest findings from Home Heat Helpline shows 13 per cent of homes in Crewe and Nantwich are entitled to relief from energy companies this year.

In the UK, that figure is a massive 3.6 million households.

Most households that qualify include low income pensioners, disadvantaged families with children or those with a disability, or those in deprived areas.

Nantwich MP Edward Timpson said: “Forecasters are predicting a cold winter ahead.

“Many people who are elderly or on low incomes may not know where to turn for help and advice on keeping their homes warm.

“The best way for people in Crewe and Nantwich to prepare is to act now, and call the Home Heat Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 to see if they’re eligible for assistance.”

Angela Knight, Chief Executive, Energy UK said: “The research speaks for itself.

“We need to look at ways to improve efficiency to keep homes warmer and energy bills lower.

“A free, confidential call to the Home Heat Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 can be made in minutes and can save up to £300 per home.”

Support includes insulation and boilers, with many elderly and low income families qualifying for the £135 Warm Home Discount on energy bills.

The Home Heat Helpline is free number which offers impartial advice.

Last winter the Home Heat Helpline assisted over 42,000 people across Britain with approximately £250 energy savings per household.

    Well my central heating is set to 12c max 24/7 and I am not cold, however I have another form of crafty cheap heating that costs pence to run, if the Editor would like to run an article on it, I would be happy to reveal the secret!!

    That’s great news for those eligible but what about the rest of us? Something I’ve been looking into which looks quite good (following the initial outlay) is HeatGenius. It’s an affordable intelligent heating system that allows you to control it from your mobile, enabling efficiency. Anyone else got any ideas other than taking up knitting!
