Art fans in South Cheshire have been lapping up an exhibition near Nantwich featuring works from world famous artists.

The “School of Paris” exhibition has featured works from Picasso, Renoir, Chagall, Matisse, and Dali among others.

And in the first few days of it opening, collectors snapped up more than £50,000 worth or pieces.

The display, hosted by the Bailey Arts gallery based at Dagfields in Walgherton, near Nantwich, is showing original prints, lithographs, etchings, drawings and linocuts in the first exhibition of its kind in the region.

Eloise Saunders, marketing manager at Bailey Arts gallery, said: “We saw the largest footfall the gallery has ever had at the weekend.

“The show has proven to be a resounding success with over £50,000 worth of sales in its opening week – including two Matisses and a signed Picasso!

“The reaction of the general public has been such that they are very excited to see ‘real’ works by such famous artists so to speak, at a reasonable price point and most importantly in their local area  – £300 to £35,000 price range.”

The exhibition is running until March 27 and the display is continuously refreshed to replace sold pieces.

“This is the first exhibition of its kind we are hoping to be able to offer similar shows throughout the year to local
people and really put the gallery on the map as a significant player outside London,” Eloise added.
