Members of Nantwich Litter Group bagged  30 sacks of rubbish during a litter blitz along the town’s canal.

The volunteers targeted a section of the canal bank near the Telford Aqueduct.

Thirty bags of rubbish and various larger items were collected and later removed by Cheshire East’s Streetscape team for disposal.

The work of the group was complimented by passing walkers and boaters, and one transported some of the bags on his boat to the Aqueduct collection point.

The session finished with refreshments at the Waterside Cafe.

The canals of England and Wales are looked after by the Canal and River Trust, but with over 2,000 miles of canals and rivers it’s a big job.

The next Group Picks will take place on Wednesday March 26 and Saturday April 12.

Both picks will start at 10am and last for about an hour, followed by refreshments.

New volunteers are welcome and equipment can be provided.
