Wrenbury & District Model Railway Club

A model railway club near Nantwich has doubled its membership – just six months after launching.

Wrenbury & District Model Railway Club now has 24 active members who meet every week in Village Hall, Wrenbury.

And to cater for demand, volunteers have launched a range of merchandise and clothing for members!

Club secretary David Houghton said: “Our members range in age from 14 to 84!

“They have a wide range of individual interests and abilities. Many come to learn new skills and widen their knowledge of the hobby but mainly to enjoy a good evening out with like-minded individuals.

“The motto ‘every day is a school day’ applies to every meeting!”

Meetings take place between 7pm and 10pm on Wednesdays and are constructing three layouts.

The largest is a 10ft 6 square 00 layout, a club N gauge layout 8ft x 4 and a smaller display N board which will eventually be taken to other venues and clubs.

Members bring their own locomotives, old and new to run on these layouts.

The club also has a small library of books, magazines and DVDs covering aspects of rail travel and modelling.

As with all new clubs, they have spent funds on construction, insurance and other items, but are determined to have regular running sessions by the autumn.

“More members would add to the pot as would the donation of old model railway items that are no longer being used,” added David.
