A local drama group is celebrating 20 years with its latest production which will raise money for the “Mend Our Mum” appeal.

Audlem 5As will be performing Jack and the Beanstalk all next week.

5As, which stands for Audlem All Ages Acting and performing Arts company, has an age range in this year’s show of 6 to 54 years.

The script has been written by 21-year-old David Davenport, who has been a member of 5As since the age of 6.

He’s co-directing with his 19-year-old sister, Erin.

Publicity officer Lesley Davenport, of Batherton, said: “Final rehearsals are going really well and Wednesday’s opening night promises to be an evening of singing, dancing and comedy, in fact something for everyone!”

Evie Popovic, 18, is taking the lead role as Jack and her leading lady, Jemima, is played by 14-year-old Gabriella Brewer.

“5As is extremely fortunate to have professional theatrical costumier, Monique Hollinshead on board,” added Lesley.

“With her team of seamstresses, her work can be only described as spectacular. For maximum effect, her fabulous creations will be kept out of the public eye until opening night!”

All proceeds from the raffle will be going to “Mend Our Mum“, the local charity set up by sisters Terri and Hannah Cliffe to raise money for treatment for their mum, Berni, who has a rare gall bladder cancer.

The Cliffe family has been involved with 5As for years. Dad Colin wrote pantomimes and plays which became quite
legendary for 5As audiences.

Terri and Hannah acted and Berni was a committee member, helping with costumes or supervising younger members.

Jack and the Beanstalk runs from Wednesday January 28 to Saturday January  31 at Audlem Public Hall.

Performances start at 7.30pm each evening and there’s also a matinee on Saturday January 31 at 2pm.

Tickets are £6 each and are available from Margaret Scott on 01270 811743.
