Willaston targeted for homes by developers

A councillor has blasted yet another planning application to build new homes on green fields in Willaston, Nantwich.

Wainhomes has submitted a proposal for a 120-home development on a site off Cheerbrook Road.

Developers say access to the site would be from Cheerbrook Road at the site of a demolished property.

And they claim Cheshire East Council should approve the plans as it is “sustainable development” and because of the “significant shortfall in the
provision of a 5-year supply of housing land”.

But objectors are now lodging their concerns amid fears the village will be gridlocked from more traffic, and the lack of primary school places and health services.

Steve and Marilyn Thomson, who live near the site, said: “You must be joking, Willaston can’t take any more homes or traffic, this is mad. April fool’s day has gone!”

Cllr Brian Silvester, who represents Willaston and Rope on Cheshire East Council, said the village was now “under siege form developers”.

“In the last year alone over 200 houses have been passed in the Green Gaps that surround Willaston,” he added.

“Last year the council passed an application for 21 houses on a site adjacent to the site for this new proposal.

“There are many valid planning reasons for the refusal of this application. The objections raised to the previous application by Willaston Parish Council are just as relevant for this application.

“Recently the Secretary of State refused an appeal for 880 houses in Rope and Shavington because it was premature due to the fact the Local Plan has not yet been adopted and in the meantime the Green Gaps should be preserved.

“Cheshire East Council now needs to move far more quickly then they have in the past to get the Local Plan adopted and to ensure that they have a five year housing supply that is recognised as such by Planning Inspectors.”

Residents have until February 12 to air their views on the plans.

A decision could be made as early as March 23.

  1. Could this be the same Mr Silvester who allegedly used his council email account to liaise with developers about the prospect of developing land in his/his brother’s ownership in the Green Gap? Surely not! But surely he deserves some credit for opposing the onslaught of planning applications for housing development in Willaston?

To be brutally frank, Brangane, you say that Mr Silvester ‘appears to do nothing about anything’, but what have you done?

Have you written to the Prime Minister or Eric Pickles to voice your objections to the ongoing desecration of the Green Gap? Because unless someone like you does, I am afraid this sustained assault on ‘our green and pleasant environment’ (as you put it) is set to continue for the foreseeable future… so if that isn’t what you want, why don’t you do something to stop it?

  2. This guy Silvester really gets on my nerves! He is constantly whinging and whining about everything but appears to do nothing about anything. Grumbling is easy. What we really need around here is somebody to do something to put a stop to all this money-grabbing building development which destroys our green and pleasant environment to put yet more cash into the hands of the super-rich. What is the point of electing people like Silvester? Please, somebody tell me.

  3. Protect Stapeley says:

Ah, Wainhomes again. They did exactly the same on the Audlem Road (A529), Nantwich, and won at appeal, with the result that the A529 will be narrowed for 160 meters from it’s current narrow width of 7 meters to an even narrower 5.5 meters.
When will we get a Local Plan and a 5 year land supply?
