Cheshire East Council is in talks with Arriva about the company’s plan to axe a late night service through Willaston.

Residents and councillors raised concerns about the Crewe-Nantwich C84 service which passes through the village, as revealed by Nantwichnews last week.

Arriva is set to withdraw the last service of the evening, on weekdays and weekends, after March 23, claiming it is not financially viable.

Yet, it will mean the final C84 service from Crewe to Nantwich via Willaston will leave as early as 7.35pm.

The service is not subsidised but Cheshire East Council has agreed to discuss the plans with Arriva.

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson told Nantwichnews: “This service is currently operated by Arriva on a commercial basis without financial support from the council.

“We are currently in discussions with them over the journeys they are planning to withdraw.”

A spokesperson for Arriva Manchester said: “From the 22nd March there will be some changes to bus services in the Cheshire area, including the 84.

“Minor timetable changes will be made to daytime journeys and some late evening journeys have been withdrawn.

“Slight changes have been made to Friday and Saturday evening services, with the last buses from Crewe departing at 20:35 and 21:35. The last journeys from Chester depart at 21:55 and 22:55.

“Unfortunately the Monday to Thursday late journeys on the 84 will be withdrawn due to lack of passengers using the bus service.

“From Monday to Thursday the last bus from Crewe will depart at 19:35 and the last bus from Chester departs at 20:55.

“From Monday 23rd March, Service 6 extended to Leighton hospital every 30 minutes.”
