Nantwich Town youth team, FA Youth Cup

A crowd of more than 200 saw Nantwich Town youth team beat Padiham FC 2-1 in the first round of the FA Youth Cup.

The young Dabbers have now earned themselves a second round trip away to Colne.

First half goals from Max Parry after just five minutes and another from Kieron Smith five minutes before the interval were enough to put Nantwich through, despite the visitors pulling one back just before full-time.

More than 200 supporters watched and youth team head coach Matt Fisher and football development director Steve Smithies were delighted with the support, the performance and result.

“It was wonderful to see so may supporters and first team players turning out to get behind the youth team,” said Steve.

“And it was a great boost for the players to have the first team management team here, along with players like Steve Jones, Mat Bailey, captain Darren Thornton, Andy White and Terry Smith.

“I am sure the massive support helped and it’s just reward for the work the players and head coach Matt have put in and hopefully everyone has seen that there is a bright future for youth development at the club.”

Nantwich will next play Colne w/c September 21, a date for the game is to be confirmed.
