Mia Brown, Brine Leas student, Horse of the Year Show

A young Brine Leas student has qualified to compete in the Horse of the Year Show 2015.

Mia Brown, 14, who also competed at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead in July, will be in action next month at the NEC.

She will compete on her pony Cranbornes Summer Song, who the family has had for two years.

Mia, who was placed 3rd and 6th in Hickstead, has only been riding for four years.

She lives with her family in Woore, near Nantwich, where they keep and ride a number of ponies.

Mia’s mum Shannon, who rode at county level when younger, said: “Mia attends to all her ponies before and after school each day.

“She got into riding when I bought her a pony to play on and have fun with, but it soon transpired she had a real talent for riding.

“It was fantastic competing at the Royal International! To compete among the top 25 ponies in the country was amazing and Song went like a dream.

“We travel the length and breadth of the country as HOYS qualifiers are spread throughout and there are only 22 of them so competition is tough. Only one qualifies per class.

“We were lucky enough to qualify for HOYS at The British Show Pony Society (BSPS) Championships held at Grantham.

“But we have been as far as Scotland and Dunster – sometimes travelling at 10.30pm the night before and travelling through the night to the showgrounds!

“Obviously, it was a very teary moment when Mia’s number was called out and the stuff that dreams are made of.”

And riding talent clearly runs in the family – with Mia’s stepsister Annie Goodwin also qualifying for HOYS.

“She will be joining us at the NEC with her pony Treowen Ranger (Bumpy) who is a HOYS favourite and regular – having won there in the past!” added Shannon.

“Annie also goes to Brine Leas and competes with us every other weekend.”
