Two against Rushall - Sean Cooke, Nantwich Town (pic by Simon J Newbury) sent off at Buxton

Former Nantwich Town favourite Sean Cooke has rejoined the club, it was announced today.

Midfielder Cooke was a firm favourite with the fans at the Weaver Stadium.

And now boss Phil Parkinson has lured him back in a bid to beef up the squad as they bid for promotion from the Evo-Stik Premier League.

Parkinson said: “We have a fantastic group of players at the club and everyone of them is making a fantastic contribution.

“It’s down to their amazing efforts and spirit that we are up among the best teams in the league.

“However, as we approach the halfway point of the season and the busy Christmas period of games, I am conscious due to the large number of games and potential injuries, our resources could be stretched.

“Players of the quality that Sean has don’t come available often, especially in mid season.

“And as he clearly wants to play for his hometown club again at what is an exciting time for everyone, we are glad to welcome him back.

“I’m really pleased he is focused on working hard in trying to gain a place in our team, which won’t be easy at the moment.

“But hopefully he will grab his chance when it presents itself and I am sure he can make a valued contribution in helping the team and the club realise it’s ambition and goals for the season.”

Nantwich Town moved to the top of the league on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory over Hyde United.

Second half goals by Liam Shotton, Elliot Osborne, and Joshua Gordon sealed the win.

The Dabbers are next in action this Saturday November 21, away at Ashton United.
