Detectives have dropped a probe into an alleged sexual assault on Mill Island in Nantwich.

Cheshire Police has been conducting an investigation in relation to the allegations that the assault had been committed in the early hours on Sunday (December 20).

The investigation involved an appeal asking for people in the area to come forward.

But Cheshire Police has now ended the inquiry and confirmed they are no longer seeking any further information.

Their investigation has now concluded and officers are satisfied that no crime has been committed.

Chief Inspector Gareth Lee, head of Crewe Local Policing Unit (LPU), said: “Cheshire Police takes all allegations of sexual offences extremely seriously.

“We have thoroughly investigated this report and I would reassure the local community that I am satisfied that there is no risk to the public.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank the public for their support and assistance in relation to the appeal for information.”
