Marbury - Dog & terrier racing - Staffordshire Bull Terrier Stanley leads the race

Hundreds bathed in late spring sunshine to enjoy the 37th annual ‘Marbury Merry Days’ two-day traditional country fair near Nantwich, writes Jonathan White.

The fair, organised by St Michael & All Angels Parochial Church Council, takes places every May in a field next to the church and Marbury Big Mere.

The main attraction this year was the Extreme Mountain Bike Show featuring two riders who demonstrated their skills and bravery over a variety of equipment in the main ring.

Other attractions and events included a craft and gift fair, trade stands, vintage motor cycles, classic cars, vintage tractors, stalls and tombola, grand draw, cake stall, refreshments, ice cream and children’s activity area.

There was also Pinxton Puppets show, helicopter, model aircraft flying display, canoeing on the Mere, dog & terrier racing, classic car& motorcycle parade, morris dancing, GLOs Dance & Cheer Troupe, Whitchurch Dog Display Team and Fun Dog Show.

Attractions inside St Michael’s & All Angels Parish Church included a children’s colouring competition, a spinning demonstration, organ music and floral decorations.

All proceeds go towards the upkeep of the St. Michael & All Angels Parish Church in Marbury.

Next year’s ‘Marbury Merry Days’ will take place on Saturday and Sunday May 13 and 14.
