fly-tipping - clean-up-team-at-westminster-street-park

A new team of officers recruited to tackle fly-tippers across Crewe and Nantwich, have issued 232 fixed penalty notices.

The private contractors, who started last week, aim to reduce fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling in the borough over the next 12 months.

Cheshire East Council says the new team is in addition to the engagement work being carried out by Cheshire East staff.

Officers will focus initial efforts on Crewe but respond to incidents in Nantwich and across the borough.

And they’ve made a swift start – handing out 232 notices already.

Fixed penalty notices of £80 are being issued for dog fouling and littering. Fly-tippers will be fined £400.

Cllr Paul Bates, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for communities and health, said: “We’ve made our position clear on this matter.

“Enough is enough. The recruitment of these officers is a clear sign of how seriously we take this issue.

“We are an enforcing council but we also have a duty to ensure we do everything we can to help people get access to the information which will stop them from fly-tipping in the future.

“Looking at the bigger picture, this really is as much about education as it is enforcement.”
