Hatton watches as Gorman faces Gorgita Gorgiladze

British boxing legend Ricky Hatton has declared his pride for undefeated Nantwich heavyweight Nathan Gorman, writes Jack Bradley.

Twenty-year old Gorman stopped his latest opponent Gorgita Gorgiladze just short of two minutes into the first round on Saturday night at Fenton Manor Sports Complex after flooring the Georgian with brutal body shots.

Hatton, who trains the hard-hitting prospect, was quick to praise Gorman and the standard of his victory.

“It was fantastic – I am very, very proud of him,” he said.

“That opponent was a lot better than the victory suggested to be honest.

“He had a quick jab and was good on his feet.

“He was one of the better opponents that Nathan has fought.”

The former Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year also went on to note the way Gorman has developed a ‘mean streak’ in the ring.

“We all know about Nathan’s hand speed and his ability, but he’s breaking bones now – I would be shocked if that lad’s ribs aren’t broken.

“He is developing that nastiness now and that natural power.”

Gorman’s win extends his record to an impressive 8-0, with seven of his eight victories coming by way of knockout or TKO.

He’s only been an active professional for 14 months but Hatton believes it won’t be long before he is fighting at a much higher level – at least domestically.

“If he is ready, he’s ready,” Hatton added.

“The manner of his performances means he will get there sooner rather than later.”
