Stumpy kitten RSPCA Nantwich

A six-week-old kitten is recovering at Nantwich’s RSPCA centre after having to have a leg amputated after he got it tangled in twine.

The youngster, who has been named Stumpy, is making a good recovery at Stapeley Grange RSPCA centre after the surgery.

He arrived at the London Road centre in June with his mum and five kitten siblings after they were found living stray on a nearby Cheshire farm.

Lee Stewart, the cattery manager, said: “Stumpy had managed to get some twine, which was being used to tie up hay, tangled around his back left leg
and it had gotten so tight that it cut off the circulation.

“There was sadly no other option but to amputate it.

“He is doing really well though – having three legs doesn’t seem to affect him at all.

“He is a little wobbly but he is so friendly and playful – he’ll make a lovely family pet.

“Stumpy has a few weeks of recovery left before he can be rehomed, but we are optimistic that he’ll make a full recovery.”

Stapeley Grange Cattery has many cats and which are currently available for rehoming. It is currently full after a decline in adoptions in the last few months.

Lee added: “The decline in cat adoptions from our cattery is very worrying.

“The team give our cats five-star treatment while they are with us, but we cannot substitute a loving family home where they can get the attention they need 24/7.

“Our rehoming has a knock-on effect and it means we are not able to accept in more cats and kittens from our inspectors, who are struggling to get them into centres such as ours.

“We desperately need help and would urge anyone who is thinking of inviting a cat into their family to come and see us.”
