Some of the historic boats on display on canal

Canal fanatics were treated to a rare gathering of historic boats in Audlem as part of the Festival of Transport in the village.

Around 40 historic and colourful ex-working narrow boats were moored along the bottom three lock pounds of the Audlem flight of locks on the Shropshire Union Canal.

Visitors had the opportunity to board some of the narrow boats.

Boats on display dated from the 19th century to 1960 and included fly-boat ‘Saturn’, narrow boat ‘Lindsay’, and steam launch ‘Omeros’.

There were stalls from Canal & Riverside Trust and the Historic Narrow Boat Club who had a display relating to the history of the canals.

A Channel 4 TV crew was filming for ‘Village of the Year’ to be broadcast later this year.
